Music by Steve Crum & Gerhard Cernek

Upon entering a village, it is still tradition to meet with the chief first and share a bowl of kava, which is an almost tasteless but tongue numbing drink, prepared from a crushed pepper plant. For men, it is impolite to wear a hat during this ceremony while a sarong is almost mandatory (yes, even for men).

The first bowl always goes to the chief. If you are insecure about this drinking ritual, just watch the inhabitants. Clap your hands and drink when the bowl is handed to you and pretend that you like the brownish drink that can absolutely paralyze your nervous system if consumed in quantities the locals do for "special occasions".
